Established by the United Nations in March 1978, this missions purpose was to comfirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and to restore international peace and security in the area. The missions mandate is also to assist the government of Lebanon to ensure and support it's ongoing authority in the area. The Mission continues to the present date, due to continuing differences and instability in the region.
