Instituted in April 2011, the New Zealand Defence Service Medal (NZDSM) recognises three (3) years attested military service since September 3, 1945.
Awarded with one or more clasps, the number of clasps awarded to an individual is determined by the type (s) of military service undertaken.

A total of four (4) clasps can be awarded: REGULAR, TERRITORIAL, C.M.T (compulsory military training) and NATIONAL SERVICE. Over 80% of The New Zealand Defence Service medal are issued with one clasp.  

This replica medal is supplied with one (1) clasp. Additional clasps are available for an extra charge and must be specified at the time of order.
